Morality and Immorality in Othello Essay -- Othello essays
Morality and Immorality in Othello à à à à William Shakespeareââ¬â¢s tragic drama Othello presents to the audience a picture of many different shades of morality and immorality. It is the purpose of this essay to elaborate in detail on this thesis. à Roderigoââ¬â¢s opening lines to Iago in Act 1 Scene 1 take us to the very root of the problem: à à à à à Tush! never tell me; I take it much unkindly à à à à That thou, Iago, who hast had my purse à à à à As if the strings were thine, shouldst know of this. (1.1) à In other words, the wealthy playboy has been paying off the ancient for the soldierââ¬â¢s intercession with Desdemona on behalf of Roderigo. This payoff has been in progress before the play begins, and it continues throughout, even in Cyprus, until the end. Yes, it would seem that money is at the root of all the tragic misfortune in this drama. In order to assure that Roderigoââ¬â¢sà gifts, both in the form of money and jewelry, continue to himself, he initiates an intrigue which begins with the late-night storming of Brabantioââ¬â¢s residence, and ends with the deaths of Roderigo, Desdemona, Othello and Emilia. à The intrigue begins when Iago suggests to the wealthy playboy that he may be able to recover Desdemona by taking immediate strong action with her father against the general: à Call up her father, à à à à Rouse him: make after him, poison his delight, à à à à Proclaim him in the streets; incense her kinsmen, à à à à And, though he in a fertile climate dwell, à à à à Plague him with flies: though that his joy be joy, à à à à Yet throw such changes of vexation on't, à à à à As it may lose some colour. (1.1) à This incident leads to the public accusation against the Moor by Braban... ...her murdered mistress, resuscitates morality in this play. Emilia refutes the untrue notions which Othello says motivated him to kill; she counters Iagoââ¬â¢s lies (ââ¬Å"She give it Cassio? No, alas, I found it, / And I did giveââ¬â¢t my husband.â⬠) and lays the guilt for Desdemonaââ¬â¢s murder on his shoulders. And she sacrifices her very life for the truth; she dies a martyr, stabbed by evil Iago. Othello also is a martyr in a sense, paying in full for the crime that he committed. à WORKS CITED à Coles, Blanche. Shakespeareââ¬â¢s Four Giants. Alternative to Economic Globalization
The book ââ¬Å"Alternatives to Economic Globalization: A Better World is Possible ââ¬â A Report of The International Forum on Globalizationâ⬠by Cavanagh and Mander is innovative and controversial book revealing misconceptions of Friedmanââ¬â¢s ââ¬Å"The World is Flatâ⬠and describing multinational imperialism as inevitable consequence of cultural and carnage obliteration.Firstly, it may seem that the authors are likely to advocate for globalization, in particular, for neoliberalism ââ¬â corporate globalization ââ¬â stating that globalization can de defined as inevitable result of technological forces and evolutionary process. In other words, no matter how the world is developing, it will inevitably result in globalization process. Therefore, the book is successful attempt to make corporate globalization more natural and effective. The authors define corporate globalization as privatization of goods and services and as the cult of international capitalism. C avanagh and Mander discuss pros and cons of globalization, implications and fallouts of globalized economies. However, with book progression it becomes apparent that the authors stand against globalization.(Brown & Renner 2006) The authors start from describing the consequences of World Trade Organization protest taken place in Seattle in 1999 and they try to find answer whether it is possible to exist without globalization and what community would think of you if you were against globalization. Answering these questions, the author offer four-hundred pages direction how to make our world better and how to move toward more sustainable democratic world. The authors provide key components of globalization model:â⬠¢ Hypergrowth resulting in inevitable search for new alternative resources, cheaper labour force and new unexplored markets; â⬠¢ Commoditisation and privatization of medicines; access to freshwater; intellectual property rights; radio waves; fertilizers and seeds; â⠬ ¢ Economic and cultural homogenization meaning that there is a need to create such global culture where ââ¬Å"every place is becoming more and more like every other placeâ⬠; (Cavanagh & Mander, 38) â⬠¢ Export-oriented investment and trade applying the merits of comparative advantage. It is known that the book is a result of discussions taken place during the period 1999-2002 by the International Forum on Globalization. The forum involved many activists of global justice movement, the International Forum on Globalization (IFG) is considered important as such famous figures as Maude Barlow, Walden Bello, Lori Wallach, Tony Clarke, Vandana Shiva and David Korte were its members. When anti-globalization protest occupied the streets of Seattle, many of its activists realized the necessity to go further and to work out alternative economic ideas how to prevent development of corporate globalization. Thus, they created the World Social Forum and the book ââ¬Å"Alternative to Ec onomic Globalizationâ⬠appeared to be a direct reflection of discussions during the protests. The book is a struggle against globalization reveals the ills of radical economic actions, participatory democracy, and social justice. However, the book isnââ¬â¢t official ideology, but serious reflection. (Brown & Renner 2006) The book provides two theoretical lines ââ¬â the first criticizing corporate globalization and power, and the second discussing alternative ideas and principle for better society. However, the term ââ¬Å"capitalismâ⬠is rarely used as a category of analysis. The author, instead, try to discuss the global corporate power. Cavanagh and Mander claim that the basis for global social and economic crisis is ââ¬Å"rooted in ââ¬â corporate globalization itselfâ⬠(Cavanagh & Mander, 32) and that ââ¬Å"globe-girdling firms (are) the driving forces behind the new architecture for global governance and the trade, finance, and investments regimes that now rule people and life on earthâ⬠. (p. 122)The book also offers thorough analysis of the institutional form of capitalism, but ââ¬Å"without an analysis of capitalism they are reduced to surface descriptions without recognizing the class relations at the core of global corporate structureâ⬠. To prove their position, the authors state that the ââ¬Å"absolute imperative to make a profitâ⬠and the ââ¬Å"imperative to continuously grow and expandâ⬠(p. 130) are likely to be ââ¬Å"rooted in the institutional forms and structuresâ⬠of corporate behaviour.Nevertheless, these imperatives are more likely to be rooted in the structural logic of capitalism which is exhibited in the form of global corporations. If too look deeper, it becomes apparent that the mentioned imperatives are to promote class societies relations with the purpose to distort current principles and beliefs of culture and civil society. Profit making and expansion are the key goals of global corporate structure in the current world.

Target Costing - Free Essay Example
Sample details Pages: 3 Words: 920 Downloads: 7 Date added: 2017/09/24 Category Advertising Essay Type Argumentative essay Tags: Development Essay Did you like this example? Target Costing on Mercedez ââ¬â Benz Mercedes-Benz (MB) is one of the worlds most successful car manufacturers since its establishment in 1886. They used target costing in the design and production of one of its products, the M-Class, which is a new sports utility vehicle model, in response to their first time suffering loss in 1993 because of cost inefficiency and problems with material purchasing and adapting to market changes. MB started developing a range of new products such as the C-Class in 1993, the E-Class in 1995, the new sportster SLK in 1996, and the A-Class and M-Class All Activity Vehicle (AAV). The issues could be raised from this case are how MB reacts to the environmental changes by applying target costing (TC) into the production of its new product, M-Class All Activity Vehicle (AAV). Competitive Environment and Strategy By taking advantages of its customer loyalty and sound brand image, MB was focusing on protecting their existing market share, which can be described as a defender (Miles and Snow, 1978). However, the first-time money losing in 1993 made MB realized that the market was changing rapidly and introducing new strategies is necessary, in order to remain alive in the market. Moreover, there are some concerns regarding the target costing application to the AAV product. First, this system will take overly-long development time. Cooperative, mutually beneficial, long-term relationships with suppliers should be maintained to diffuse cost reduction effort. MBââ¬â¢s strategy was producing vehicles that were more expensive and delivered a greater perceived value to customers. To run with this startegy, MB need an intensive cooperation with their suppliers to ensure the production processes could run effectively as they were planned. MBââ¬â¢s suppliers provided systems rather than individual parts or components for production of approximately 65,000 vehicles annually. Although the target cost might be met, develop ment time may increase because of repeated value engineering cycles to reduce costs, ultimately leading to the product coming late to the market. The other concern of implementating target costing on MB is employee burnout. One of specialisation of MB which is differentiates them from others producers is MB produce luxury cars, with exclusive design and hig brand image. They need reliable designers to maintain and develop their products. Indirectly, it become a high pressure for designers that could possibly contributes employee burnout. MB has moved to adapt with the environmental change and to increase their profitability after facing their first loss is seeking new markets, new segments, new niches. Their first move is conduct a market research (concept phase) for one year. The analysis revealed that there is a good opportunity in the AAV market. After identifying customer preferences and component importance index, target cost index are determined. The index indicates that transmission, electrical system, and other function groups are candidates for value engineering. Regarding to the concerns of target costing application on MB, those concerns basically impose that there is a risk of making things worse by pushing it too far. People would normally consider productââ¬â¢s feature as an integration of a series of functions which could be added or subtracted, upgraded or redesigned in car industry. Nowadays, auto makers upgrade and introduce new cars almost every year. Thatââ¬â¢s one difference from other products which has a once-for-all design process. But for a platform, it was MBââ¬â¢s policy to develop new platforms for its series of car every 7 to 8 years, and every development is a new structure rather than simple modifications which means it has a long development life for a platform before itââ¬â¢s launched. So compared with other products, design and engineering process plays a vital role in the whole cycle life of car and mista ke in this process normally will lead to a very big risk of unsuccessful products. Then it comes out the paradox between state of art and state of market. While designer and engineer trying to make an artist, management focuses on profitability, itââ¬â¢s where MBââ¬â¢s Target costing is available to push designers hard to design cost out. Therefore, MB should work its best to derive a comprehensive category list prior to index development. Finally obtain the target cost through the Target Costing equation. Importance Index (table 4) shows the degree of importance towards customers of each component which may be considered when purchase of a new MB product while Target Cost Index (table 5) is a measure for the deviation of importance (which the component should be given) and component cost. ABC is an ideal instrument to meet this requirement. Therefore, Tartget Costing was used in the AAV production project. However, there are some problems existing in the development of those indexes as well as the way MB was interpreting them. Meanwhile, MB could use achievement ratio and cost reports to monitor the performance of Kaizen Costing. MB then compared the target cost with drifting cost to find out the cost reduction targets for each function group. In order to achieve this, MB should seek to develop certain organizational arrangements (through policies or culture) to foster a spirit of continuous improvement. Finally, i would like to recommend MB to always maintain a good relationship and cooperation with all those suppliers since MB become rely on them to achieve target costing. Indeed, as a leader in luxury car market, innovation on design and features of product are the most important things to be considered. So, regeneration and ideaââ¬â¢s tranformation amongst designers, engineers and the rests of human resources shuold be developed by the innovative and modern learning, training, and development systems. Credit Card Fraud Over A Three Or Four Month Time Frame...
In the case I will be discussing the problem was an increase in credit card fraud over a three or four month time frame was noticed. The credit card issuers contacted Ubizen. Ubizen is a private firm that investigates cybercrimes. The source was pinned down to one company which the article refers to as company A. It took a private firm cooperating with the FBI to find the problem, fix it, and track down the cybercriminal. The first step was to identify the problem and attempt to narrow it down to its origin. This was done by tracking the information by patterns to a common point. The common point in this case was company A. company A is a private company that handles credit card transactions for many businesses. The name has been changed to protect the company (Sartin, 2014). Company A agreed to cooperate with investigators not knowing that their systems had been breached. Ubizenââ¬â¢s investigators began to search through the companyââ¬â¢s servers and found that the information had in fact come from their systems (Sartin, 2014). Company A was storing magnetic strip information on its servers. That type of information was not to be stored on their systems. Further investigation led to the discovery of software not stored on their system by an administrator (Sartin, 2014). This was a backdoor program called HackerDefender. This information made it seem that it was not an inside job, but rather th e work of a cybercriminal hacking the network from the outside (Sartin, 2014). Cell Phones An Indispensable Lifeline For The Rest Of...
Most of us are no stranger to this scene - a group of friends sits down to a meal together. Laughing, swapping stories, and catching up on the news - but not necessarily with the people in front of them! Nowadays, itââ¬â¢s not unusual to have oneââ¬â¢s cell phone handy on the table, easily within reach for looking up movie times, checking e-mails, showing off photos, or taking a call. Itââ¬â¢s a rare person who doesnââ¬â¢t give in to a quick glance at the phone every now and then. Todayââ¬â¢s multifunctional cell phones have become an indispensable lifeline to the rest of the world. This is really a gathering in the era of cell phone. For instance, in the post-graduate entrance examination of 2015, the examinees were required to write an essay of 160-200 words based on the following picture. As vividly shown in the picture, a group of friends, as we mentioned above, boys or girls, are having a dinner party while each one of them is checking messages in their cell phones without saying a word to one another, leaving the dishes untouched. The above picture unveils a common social phenomenon and the symbolic meaning of the photo is the effect of the cell phone on people s way of life. Undoubtedly, the phone provides us with considerable convenience, making many things possible which are beyond our dreams. As a communication tool, the phone makes us closer than ever before by providing immediate communication. Meanwhile, there are negative effects on our personal life. As is shown in the picture,

Bodybuilding free essay sample
Bodybuilding BY adam5701 When a bodybuilder, fitness, figure, or physique competitor begins to prepare for a contest there are so many different variables that go into how you are supposed to train. From personal experience, exercise order has not made a huge impact for the results I was striving to achieve. As long as I do not work the same muscle group within a 48-hour period (since that is the typical recovery time for your muscles to fully repair), I have achieved amazing results. Here are a few other things I highly recommend doing, which if not done properly it almost makes it impossible to ucceed. First hire a reputable coach, I initially made the mistake of taking a shortcut and hired someone because they were cheap which made me place dead last in my first competition. Since then I paid the money and hired someone who knew the ins and outs of competing and it has done wonders for me. A coachs Job is to typically plan out your diet, workout routine, supplementation, posing routine, and best of all its great to have someone else looking at you once or twice a week to see how you change and what else you need to improve on. Yes, I could have done all this on my own but this outside eye makes a huge difference and trying to plan all this out while youre brain dead from dieting can be difficult at times. Next thing is to plan out every little detail in your workout, diet, and sleep schedule for every hour each day. Consistency is a big part of competing and if you are not consistent you will not see any of the results you desire. When attempting to gain muscle mass or density, most people automatically think they have to lift heavy in order to grow. Personally I have found it much more useful o lift at a lower weight with a rep range from 8-20 depending on the exercise. I still see amazing results because each time I do this I make sure I fatigue the muscle and push it until failure. The way I achieve this is by making my rest time between sets and exercises no more than 60 seconds for a single workout, and up to 90 seconds for a drop set (which is starting off with a high weight for a low amount of reps and increasing the reps as you drop the weight, I typically drop the weight about 3-4 times). There was also a study performed where Regardless of the number of reps erformed, the subjects burned 52% more calories when they rested Just 30 seconds between sets as compared to three minutes or more. Working at 10 reps per set burned about 7% more calories than five-rep sets did (Stoppani, Jim, Flex pg. 1). There are also other things I do in order to fatigue my muscle and cause growth, rather than Just focusing on rest time. As shown in my workout plan notes you will notice that my 1 5 to 20 repetition exercises are more towards the beginning of my workout. I have it set up this way because I do not do conventional stretching before orking out since it essentially lowers the amount of weight or reps I can perform. Instead I do these warm up sets of 15 to 20, and this isnt Just light easy rep weight, I make sure its enough to where once I get to those last two reps I feel as if my muscle will give out. This enables blood to flow into the muscles and essentially gets them warmed up and ready for the heavier tasks. Another thing I love incorporating are three workouts of 1 or 2 muscle groups you are training, which I normally choose exercises that are opposite in movement), focus on the time and length of ontraction, and lastly a rest pause (which if I do not perform all 20 reps and only get to 13, I will rest for 20 seconds and complete the remaining 7). Training with these different intensities on random workouts makes a huge difference for strength and muscle gain. The main reason I have found this effective is because I am constantly tearing down my muscle fibers with a different method each workout. Another big thing to think about when training for competitions, or even Just working out in general is to achieve the mind and body connection. My theory on this s that its impossible to workout the muscle you are targeting if you are unable to feel it. In other words an isometric contraction, because any type of muscle growth and performance depend primarily on the neuromuscular system (Yessis pg. 1). A good way to practice would be Just to attempt to flex each individual muscle, which at first is very difficult for someone who is Just starting out. Also doing this between sets for 6-10 seconds can actually promote muscle growth and density. Flexing the targeted muscle(s) between sets lets you know the feeling you want to duplicate during the set. With practice, this will strengthen your focus so you can better work that area (Flex pg. 98). If you talk to almost any bodybuilder or physique athlete, they would be able to make almost any muscle they train contract on its own and will be the first to tell you its extremely difficult to hold. If you continue to train your muscles with these so-tension types of exercises you essentially get them accustomed to being in that position which is crucial for stage presence. If you do not practice this before going onto a stage, you tend to be more susceptible to cramps or its difficult o hold the pose for minutes and points will be deducted from shaking or relaxing on the pose. When training or developing a program, each muscle group needs to be trained for this sport. For me personally I have a few weak areas, which is why my individual workout I train deltoids twice a week and only incline chest workouts on there respected day. Also notice the time spread between the deltoid workouts, its Monday and Friday so I am staying within that time frame for optimal muscle repair. The reason I have so much attention on these two muscle groups are because Judges in hysique competition love the big rounded shoulder look, and a full chest. I have a disadvantage in these areas mainly because I am still only 21 so I dont have fully matured muscles yet, and many other competitors are 24 and above. The only way I compensate for this lack of size is to focus on them more than everyone else. Also for the deltoids I have a day that is more heavy, but still at that 12 rep range and another that goes up to 20 reps known as my day. I find it great to have two different variations for optimal muscle growth, especially since it is a small muscle group and s extremely easy to over stress with too much weight in turn causing injury (which I had when I first began lifting at 18). When training this muscle group I focus on the contraction, as well as the time it takes me to fully go through the concentric and eccentric motion. This method insures for me ensures optimal stress without the risk The sport of fitness competing is always plagued for injury, and there will always be that risk. Basically every muscle you train will be susceptible to injury, and there is no way to get around it. However, there are ways to significantly minimize the risks. Workout form has to be at the top of this list hands down, I see many people training and sometimes I cringe Just watching them because it looks as if they will snap their back or tear a muscle. Always make sure to have great form and control with each exercise, and this in my opinion should be applied to any workout you do not Just resistance training. Second thing would have to be the amount of weight you choose to use. I see so many individuals, guys in particular try to do so much damn weight in order to impress that pretty girl, and in turn end up getting hurt and making a fool ut of themselves. Always keep in mind everyone has to start somewhere, and remember no girl is going to care how much weight you can bench. Also perform exercises that are plausible and not these ridiculous crossflt types of movement exercises. I am sorry, but I am not a firm believer in picking up 2001b from the ground and lifting it over your head. That to me is an instant sign for so many different injuries, and not to mention the trainers instructing you allow you to do it with the most horrendous form. Make sure to stretch before working out with warm up sets to et the blood flow throughout the muscle, and after working out with conventional stretches to increase flexibility. Lastly, mind your peers when training because you in fact can injure someone else. I had an incident with a New Years resolution individual that was doing 801b with dumbbell press, and he decides it is too heavy and Just throws them on the ground and it almost bounced onto my foot, which most likely would have broken it. Now with all that being said there are some freak accidents I have seen people with perfect form and mediocre weight have one of heir muscles Just tear, and it is one of the most painful things to witness. I personally had an incident when I was doing incline dumbbell press with 1001b, I performed the exercise without any issues. However when I set the weights down on my knees to put them down, my wrist Just snapped and made this loud popping noise and it hurt terribly. I have no idea what happened and Just took a break for a few weeks because it was painful to grip anything, and it slowly went away for the most part. Since then I use wrist straps and weight belts to help stabilize those parts of my body, which I have found to help. The goal with this program is not only strength gains, but to basically look the best you can physically. It is not all about size, you want to find a nice balance between size, lean muscle mass, and proportionality for your specific division. The program I have set up is the one I currently use for my offseason training (typically the time when there are no shows for 4-6 months). This specific one is to help me gain size, while retaining majority of my lean muscle mass and density so when I have to prepare for a show I will be able to do so with an 8 week program. While prepping for show a lot of my training changes, and I add a few plyometric workouts in as well as interval cardiovascular training 4-6 days a week depending how far out I am from competing. Any type of cardiovascular training I typically do fasted in the morning, difference personally. There are millions of different workouts for different individuals, this specific one I wouldnt say should be used by every competitor since I conformed it to address my weaknesses. For a basic individual who is intermediately experienced with training, and is trying to look great however this would be a great tarting point.

Learning and Knowledge Implications for Educational Settings
Question: Discuss about the Implications for Educational Settings. Answer: The complexity of innovation through shared value have predominantly established from knowledge exploration. According to Bolstad et al., (2012), the present age of knowledge has reorganized the standard economic development model, which comprises of bureaucratic management hierarchies and natural resource exploitation. With the progress of time, innovation has made the life of individuals quite simplistic and in this 21st century, potential cluster of theories, beliefs, ideas and practices have led to embed future-oriented learning and teaching at the whole-system level. However, I believe individuals at present just acts as the spectators and they do not learn well. Learners just act as the passive listeners of knowledge pieces, which are shared to them. While considering the viewpoint of Leuthardt, (2014), it has been found that a new hypothesis has been proposed, which indicates that innovation is only possible when individuals exchange knowledge through learning. So, I believe that one can gain knowledge just from continuous learning otherwise exponential proportion of information exchange rate will get hampered. Therefore, the important role of knowledge in learning cannot be overestimated, as without learning knowledge cannot promote. According to Gilbert, (2005), a learner must acquire knowledge from traditional modes such as the curriculum subjects and demonstrate those in assessments. On the other hand, Alexander, (2006) pointed out that in the 21st century, learners must circumvent practical life situations through which new solutions against problems can be gained outside education-driven modes. For example, an individual who has gained theoretical knowledge of career development might not able to implement those in real-life scenarios until and unless practical-world driven critical circumstances are experienced. A learner, who has the ability to listen actively, can act proactively by applying knowledge acquired from learning real-world challenges. Therefore, I believe for new learning situations learners can bring significant changes only if they have learned well. While discussing about the outcome of knowledge, it is quite sure that the concepts and principles will continue to develop overtime and by nurturing and cultivating the values of knowledge one can share more information among each other especially in educational institutions. Gilbert, (2005) pointed out that instead knowledge must be used as the source though which future learning can be ensured. Therefore, I believe knowledge can never be considered as a product but it is the accumulation of ideas that will be nurtured with the progress of time and will help in managing future pedagogical models.
